"I started my PhD at 23 years old… and honestly, I had no idea what I was walking into."
I thought being "smart" would be enough. I thought if I worked hard enough, sacrificed enough, stayed disciplined enough… everything would somehow work itself out, but that's not what happened. Instead, I found myself navigating imposter syndrome, toxic supervision, isolation, funding struggles, self-doubt and confusion.
There were moments I genuinely believed:
"Maybe I'm not meant to be here."
At one point, I even had to pause my PhD journey. When your PhD stops… your confidence can stop with it. I felt behind like everyone else was moving forward while my life stood still. But somewhere in the middle of all the uncertainty, I slowly began rebuilding myself again and eventually, I finished my PhD!
The beautiful part is that my PhD was not the end of my story. It became the foundation for a life BIGGER than I ever imagined.
Today, I have built an impactful and profitable career across academia, government policy, consulting, research, nonprofit leadership and entrepreneurship. I am doing over 10 things all connected to my PhD degree!
This book is everything I wish someone had told me before I started.
Spending years chasing a title while wondering if a PhD was even the right path for you
Choosing the wrong supervisor — the person you'll interact with more than almost anyone else during your PhD — and feeling unsupported for years
Finishing your PhD only to realize you have no idea what comes next
Spending years chasing a degree while slowly losing your identity outside of academia
I wrote this book to help you avoid unnecessary pain, unnecessary delays, unnecessary confusion, and unnecessary self-doubt.
